Reasons to Celebrate Every Day
For 364 days a year my daughter waits with great anticipation. Waiting for that one day. That day when it is her birthday. In January she will say, “it is almost my birthday.” The natural comment to her is, “is your birthday next week?” To which I respond, “No, it is in July but to her, it is almost her birthday.” So for 364 days, we wait with anticipation for the one day that we celebrate. There are reasons to celebrate every day.
Celebrate Every Day – Life is worth Celebrating
“Go home and prepare yourself, face the facts.” Those were the words that my husband and I heard when Miss K was just 10 days old. The NICU doctor was telling us that our daughter would not live through the night. She lived through the night and through the heart surgery a few days later. She continues to live and so we celebrate.
“Know that the LORD, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.” Psalm 100:3
Do we understand how fragile life is? Our lives really are fragile but yet it is God who made us and God who sustains us. Celebrate Life!
God’s Faithfulness is worth Celebrating
Each birthday marks 365 days of God’s faithfulness. God is faithful. That is who he is. We are quick to jump to verses we love and ones that make us feel good so we read Lamentations 3:22-23 but skip the beginning of the chapter. Go back and read the beginning. “I am the man who has seen affliction. . .” (3:1). “He has made my flesh and my skin waste away” (3:4) Through the next verses in that chapter it continues to tell of all the difficult things that happened. Then comes verse 21 beginning with the word, but. Don’t you just love that word, you know something good is going to happen.
“But this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love the LORD never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. ‘The LORD is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him.” Lamentations 3:21-24 (ESV)
Even when the year is difficult, have hope. We can have hope because the steadfast love of the LORD never ceases and his mercies never come to an end.
Celebrate God’s faithfulness with hope!
Celebrate Every Day – Celebrate God’s Goodness
The day after the doctor said those words to us, we learned the reason for all the medical complications. We received the results of the chromosome study. The chromosome study showed that Miss K had Trisomony 21 also know as Down Syndrome.
I will admit, God’s goodness was not the first thing that came to my mind after hearing those words. At times I struggled with this. There were so many questions, “What does this mean? How does this impact our lives? In all the questions, I could rest knowing that God is Good and all he does is for our good.
“The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.” Psalm 145:9 (ESV)
No matter what might be happening in your life know that God is good.
Celebrate God’s Goodness!
So get the bright balloons, wear the party hats, and eat cake. Celebrate life, celebrate God’s faithfulness and celebrate God’s goodness.
We celebrated 15 years of Miss K last week with balloons, friends, gifts and of course, cake. I reflect back to that night in Taiwan when the doctor in the NICU in her broken English told us, “Go home and prepare yourself, face the facts.” While it looked like it might be the end, God had other plans. Through the years God has been faithful and good. We praise him for who he is.
By the way, it is my birthday soon. Okay, not until October but we can begin planning and get ready to celebrate.
Celebrate Every Day.
