How to Pray for Teens – A-Z Prayer Guide
A is for Acknowledge God – The world we live is about doing it yourself, your own hard work or your smart brain. Praying that in the midst of this teens would acknowledge God. That means recognizing who God is. God is the giver of life and sustainer. Pray that teens will acknowledge God, recognize what he is doing in their lives. Be bold to share that with friends. “In all your ways acknowledge him.” Proverbs 3:6
B is for Believe – First of all, that they would believe in the Lord Jesus for salvation. (Acts 16:31). Believe for salvation is the foundation for all spiritual life. The world is telling them not to believe in God, that God doesn’t exist. Pray also that they will believe that God is who he says he is.
C is for Communication – Communication is more than just the words we say. Communication is the non-verbal as well as the verbal. What are teens communicating? Pray for love in their words and actions. Words can be so powerful. Pray that they will speak with boldness and courage. Pray that their words will be filled with wisdom, truth, kindness, and humility. The goal in communication should be to please to the Lord. (Psalm 19:14)
D is for Diligence – Diligence requires focus, discipline, and hard work. Pray that teens will have diligence in what they are to be doing. Diligence is one thing that will set them apart in the world. Pray they will work hard and finish the job.
E is for Emotions – Mental health is a big topic today. It is important for teens and for Christians. Our emotions are part of how God has made us. Our emotions give insight into our health with God and others. Pray for healthy emotions and understanding of emotions. If they need help with their emotions, pray they will seek help.
F is for Friends – You might know your teen’s friends and if so, pray for them by name. You might not them personally but you can pray for them. Pray for their salvation, and that they will grow in knowing God. Pray they will encourage one another, challenge one another, and serve one another. Friends have a bit impact on the lives of teens so pray that their friends will point them to Jesus. Pray they will be the friend that others need.
G is for Giving – In a “me first” world giving people are unique and stand out. At this time teens are beginning to make their own decisions about giving both giving time and money. Pray they will be giving and not selfish. Encourage them to give. Learn to give from the heart. Pray they will be a ready and generous giver.
H is for Habits – As teens are beginning to have a bit more freedom, it is important that they are forming and maintaining good habits. These could be spiritual as well as physical habits. Forming healthy habits that help us will benefit us for years to come. Unhealthy habits require hard work to change. Encourage and model good habits. Pray that teens will be forming healthy habits.
I is for Idols – Idols are things that we look to instead of God. It is something that to us is more important than God. It is what we seek instead of seeking God. So many things can become idols even good things can easily become idols. Pray that teens will seek God and not idols. Pray they will put away the idols that might be in their lives and love and serve God first.
J is for Joy – The joy of the Lord is my strength. (Nehemiah 8:10) Learning to have joy is so important in life. When we have joy it changes how we are acting and even the quality of the job that we are doing. Does your teen have joy in their day? Do they serve with joy? Pray that in all things they will be joyful.
K is for Kindness – Learning to be kind is a character quality that will take someone far in life. Being kind is not always easy but we are called to be kind. This will give you just a bit to think about regarding genuine kindness. Pray that they will make decisions to be kind even when it is not what everyone else is doing.
L is for Love – Pray that they will understand God’s love for them. God loves us even though we are enemies. God loves us unconditionally. Understanding God’s love will give the foundation for loving others. Pray also that they might love God with all their heart, and with all their soul and with all their might. (Deuteronomy 6:5) Pray that they will love others and reflect God’s love.
