How to Remain Faithful in a Crisis
How do you remain faithful in a crisis? When life seems to be falling apart, you might question how you can remain faithful. If you are like me, in time of crisis there are numerous questions running through your head. We can remain faithful to God in a Crisis.
In a crisis, we often ask the questions, “Where is God?” or “Is God good?” We want to know God’s presence in our lives in difficult times. When life is difficult, it is often easy to question if God is good to me.
Faithful to a Faithful God
God is faithful and so because of that, we need to be faithful. Because God is faithful. We can remain faithful in a crisis. We can depend on him.
It makes no sense to depend and rely on something if that thing is not dependable. Think about it – if your normal supermarket time and time again doesn’t have the items on your list, why continue going there? You could go to another one across the street that has everything you want. Why be loyal or faithful to something that is not faithful to you?
God is faithful to us. We can be faithful to him.
The Foundation of our Faithfulness is God
In the middle of a crisis often we find ourselves looking at ourselves and our situation. We need to change our focus from ourselves and focus on God. Instead of asking is God here? Ask how do I see God working now?
In our own strength, we can’t do it but God is faithful and he will help us. The foundation for our faithfulness must be found in God.
Here is a bit more about the Foundation of our Faithfulness is God.
God displays his Faithfulness in his character
God’s Timing is Perfect – Years ago we were in a family crisis, school was about to end for the summer and I was dreading it. Honestly, I did not know how I could continue and that is not an exaggeration. I was desperate. I needed God to work. His timing was perfect. Just as I was at the point of not able to continue God stepped in and worked in a way that clearly showed me it was God working and not something that I was doing. So, no matter the crisis, know that God’s timing is perfect.
God’s Provision is Generous – There are so many ways that God provides for us. Look to see how God is generously providing for you in this time of crisis. It can be small ways or big ways. The provision could be financial or it could be other things we need. Be confident in knowing that God will provide.
God’s Protection is Sure – Through the Psalms, the authors often write how God has been a shelter, a rock, a stronghold. All of those words describe protection. There is no question, God will protect us in the way that is best which might not be the way we think. Knowing that God will protect can be a comfort in the midst of crisis.
I love you, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold Psalm 18:1-2 (ESV)
I love you, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18:1-2 (ESV)
God’s Help is Necessary – We are weak and fragile. Often during a crisis, we see that more than ever. We need help. God is the help that we need. There is no one else that can help us as God can.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1 (ESV)
God’s Presence is Consistent – In the time of a crisis often we don’t want to be alone. We want to know that someone is there with us. I felt that way when I was in hospital and could not have visitors. I wanted someone with me. We need to remember that God, the Holy Spirit is with us at all times. We are not alone. God’s presence is consistent.
These are just a few of the ways that we see God’s faithfulness in his character in our times of crisis. I would challenge you in your crisis to look for ways that you see him faithful. Write it down so that you can remember it.
In a crisis, look to God and his faithfulness. Have confidence in who God is and know that he will fight for us.
Find Faithful Friends
Having friends who could help me focus on God helped so much during my medical crisis. I have learned the value of having friends that will walk with you but even more help you remain faithful.
Even if it is just one or two friends have friends that will keep pointing you to Jesus. Be honest with them, let them know how you are struggling. Ask them to pray and encourage you.
Focus on Eternity
It is easy to get absorbed with what is happening in our lives, especially during a crisis. We need to change the focus on us and what is happening to God and eternity. We will have challenges, crisis, and difficulty in this world, but all that should make us long more and more for eternity.
Do you have a longing for eternity? Looking forward with joy to be in God’s presence where he will wipe away the tears and make all things new.
With God’s help, you can remain faithful in a crisis. You can grow in knowing God during a crisis.
