What I did in February to Connect & Grow

What I did in February to Connect & GrowFebruary can be a difficult month as the weather can still be wintery combined with a short month. I find that when it is cold and dark, I have to work hard to be motivated. Some days I just need to do something for 15 minutes. I did continue to connect and grow in February.

At the end of each month, I plan some time to just sit and review the month. This is a time to review what was planned, what was accomplished, what changes need to be made. I also record things in my year notebook. I record books read, budget tracking, decluttering, things acquired and a few other things.

Setting goals is great but if you do not review your goals regularly you will not know if you are moving in the right direction. Here is a review of some of my goals:

Connect & Grow with God

Reading through the Bible in 90 Days – I jumped into this in February. I have used this reading plan in the past and enjoyed it. It does take a bit of time each day but I have found the joy worth the time.

Giving – I am continued to be challenged in giving from the heart. My selfishness creeps in my heart in little ways. It might be trying to sell something on a sales and swap instead of giving it away. I found myself doing that this month. Tracking my spending is good but at times that can cause me to be a bit selfish. I need to be looking at my heart in this area.

Connect & Grow with Others

The highlight was a weekend away with two friends I have known for years. We know each other’s blessings and struggles. We spent time together talking and chatting but then spent time praying and worshiping God together. It is a blessing to have friends that know you, know the challenges, pray with you and point you to the truth.

Our weekends have been busy. We had our Chinese New Year outreach event which was great. It is hosted at our church for Chinese in our area. We have a Gospel talk in Mandarin and then a meal with some fun time together.

Our busy weekends have made hospitality challenging through we did have a family over one evening.

Connect & Grow through Hobbies

I have shared some recent books I have read here, Fatal Homecoming, Castle on the Rise, and Brunch at Bittersweet Cafe.

I read Every Good Endeavour. This is a book about work and the Christian. In a way, I was thinking, “why am I reading this I am not working”? Maybe I don’t have a job that I go to and get paid but I am working and some of the principles apply even to me. One topic that he talked about was idols which he defined as “imagining and trusting anything to deliver the control, security, significance, satisfaction, and beauty that only the read God can give.”

I finished reading Real. This was one that was chosen to read with a group of friends. This has been a good book to discuss how to be real with people and the benefits of that.

I continued to host Craft Afternoon. It has been a fun time chatting and crafting. I am working on a log cabin quilt. It is coming together. I have posted on Instagram weekly progress reports.

Connect & Grow with Me

In February I decided to run/walk every day for 15 minutes, just 15 minutes but every day. I admit the first of February there was a bit of snow and ice so it was not the best of days to begin. I did it every day. 15 minutes might not be much but over the month it was 420 minutes. 15 minutes was something that I figured was doable. I would be able to achieve that goal.

I made the goal one that would be achievable. On the cold and rainy day, I did it because I knew it was just 15 minutes. It might not have been the grandest of goals but achieving the goal is worth more than a grand goal that is not achieved.

How was your February? Were you motivated to make progress?
